Bala — the Sanskrit and Hindi word for strength. And there is something poetic about a piece named in the language of the country where it is made. The Bala Earrings are two organic, pebble-shaped forms in thick 18K gold vermeil — each set with sliced raw uncut diamonds in white and silver resin, finished with pavé champagne diamonds. Chunky, sculptural, and completely original. Each pair is handmade by master artisans in Jaipur, India — shaped and worked by hand, the diamonds set one by one into forms that look like they were found in nature rather than made in a studio. The stones are authentic and upcycled, chosen for their raw character and natural variation. No two pairs are exactly alike. Wear them alone and let the shape do the work. In 18K gold vermeil over sterling silver, the Bala Earrings carry the strength of their name in every detail — and the soul of the city where they were born.

What Sets Us Apart

What is Vermeil?

Vermeil is a luxurious alternative to solid gold—perfect for those looking to elevate their jewelry game without the four-figure investment.

  • 18K Gold Layer: A 3-micron layer of solid 18K gold for lasting radiance
  • Sterling Silver Base: Never brass—only high-quality, hypoallergenic sterling silver beneath
  • Fine Jewelry Feel: Heirloom-worthy quality and weight
  • Ethically Sourced: Always made with love and intention
  • Lasts Longer Than Gold-Plated: Vermeil offers superior durability and richness

It’s jewelry that looks—and lasts—like fine gold, at a fraction of the price.

Jewelry Care

Each Shana Gulati piece is crafted with care—and we hope you’ll treat it with the same love. To preserve its beauty:

  • Keep your jewelry dry and away from moisture when not in use.
  • Gently polish with a soft, non-abrasive cloth to maintain its natural shine.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaning pads.
  • For lasting wear, we recommend storing it safely and refraining from bending, dropping, or striking it against hard surfaces.

These designs are delicate by nature—handle them with intention, and they’ll stay with you for years to come.

I didn't know where I was going. I just knew I had to go.

I was just shy of eight when my family moved from India to Jackson Heights, New York. The acceptable paths were Medicine, Engineering, or Law. I chose Law — out of genuine respect for what my parents had sacrificed. But it was never my true path, and somewhere underneath all of it, I always knew that.

In 2012, I stepped away, moved back to India, and gave myself over to figuring out what came next. No design education. No knowledge of jewelry or manufacturing. Just a feeling, a stubbornness, and the belief that sometimes not knowing is exactly where you need to start.
